February 2010

XXXXXXThis February marks a milestone in my personal life: I am celebrating being cancer free after having had breast cancer surgery five years ago!  The fifth year is a significant marker in cancer survival! I am deeply grateful for God's healing, restoration, and grace in my life!

XXXXXXAs I was thanking God for this, I got a message that one of our Bridge partnering missionaries, Shelli Sellars, has recently learned that she has metastatic colon cancer which has spread to her right lung.  Joe and Shelli Sellars and their two children moved from the States to Germany in Aug. 1999, where they lived and worked among Germany’s youth.  In Nov. 2007, they returned home to TN, with future plans to return to the mission field - at least on a short-term basis.

XXXXXXJoe and Shelli are a dynamic power-couple of faith, who enjoy challenges and are willing to give it all in their service for the Lord.  They have a deep love for the young generation and a passion for bringing the Gospel to them in a relevant, practical way that penetrates the global youth culture! To give you more background information on their mission work in Germany and their vision for young people, I have included a .pdf file of the January 2007 issue of The Bridge Report that featured the Sellars (click on the button ARCHIVE above).

XXXXXThis is Shelli’s ultimate challenge! Having recently learned that statistically, one in three persons will encounter cancer at some point in their lifetime, I have become more aware of how many believers have been touched by this disease, and are struggling with, not only the physical pain and suffering, but the emotional fallout and the many faith-issues that are part of facing this life-threatening malady. I also think about those who live in parts of the world where there is no access to proper medical care to help fight the disease, who have only one hope: God's supernatural, miraculous healing power!

XXXXXXShelli is courageous and has in an effervescent, articulate way written an open, honest journal of her battle, in which she exposes her joy, fears, anger, faith, and hope— all being part of that journey. Here, I have included excerpts from her journal. The reason I devoted a whole month's Bridge Report to this, is that I believe that Shelli's words will be an encouragement and exhortation to many who find themselves in the same situation and are placing their faith in God and His healing and provision.

XXXXXXShelli’s chemo-therapy will cost several hundred thousand dollars – an enormous sum of money for a young family who has recently returned from the mission field abroad.  We have set up a fund for contributions toward Shelli’s medical expenses.  Please send a check to the below Bridge address, or click on the "donate" button above and follow PayPal's instructions as to give via credit/debit card or your bank account.

Thank You!
